Think about the font<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Make sure the font in your resume is appropriately sized and choose a readable font. We prefer fonts such as Garamond, Times New Roman, or Cambria because they\u2019re clean and easy-to-read.<\/p>\r\n

Take out the professional summary<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

You may very well be a detail-oriented, multi-tasking sales professional with over 20 years of experience<\/em>, but putting that front and center on your resume won\u2019t get you as far \u2013 and it takes up valuable real estate. The truth is \u2013 almost no one reads it. Rather, start with either your education (for recent grads) or experience. That\u2019s where the reader is looking to focus.<\/p>\r\n

Proofread<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Giving your resume a once (or twice or thrice) over is so important. An otherwise brilliant resume with just one or two careless typos can blow an interview opportunity. Yes, some resume screeners and hiring managers are that<\/em> picky.<\/p>\r\n

Rename it<\/strong><\/p>\r\n

Make sure you save your resume with your first name and last name in the filename. You don\u2019t want to submit a file to recruiters with a name like \u201cSmith_John_Draft2_Resume_Marketing.\u201d It looks sloppy. A simple \u201cJohn Smith Resume\u201d will suffice, and recruiters will appreciate it.<\/p>\r\n
